This is inspired by the story of Hades and Persephone – this is the story of the seasons.

Persephone is the daughter of Demeter (Goddess of the Harvest), she was known as the Goddess of Spring. Of course, as all gods/goddesses, she was absolutely beautiful. One day, Hades (King of the Underworld) saw her and fell in love instantly. Hades kidnapped Persephone and took her to become his queen. In turn, Demeter searches the Earth for her daughter, she neglected her duties and the earth became frozen and the world slowly died… Persephone had to come back to the mortal world so that the world could bloom again. In different variations Hades tricks Persephone into eating food of the Underworld, meaning she would have to stay there, in other variations Persephone eats the food willingly to compromise. Either way, she eats 7 pomegranate seeds, which meant that she would have to spend 7 months of the year in the Underworld with him, the rest of the time with her mother in the mortal world. This giving us the seasons – Spring is when Persephone comes home to her mother and the world blooms, Summer is when it starts to get a little bit too hot to get us ready for the cold that Fall brings (when Persephone leaves) and of course Winter being the coldest as it is the time Demeter has been without her daughter the longest. Then Persephone comes home and starts the cycle all over again!

The Greek Mythology collection is one I’ve had in my brain for almost a year now and I am so excited to have it available now!

Some background on these acrylic material pieces, all shapes/illustrations are designed by me either on my iPad or on Adobe Illustrator. They are cut out with a laser cutter and then need to have their backings peeled off front and back before they are assembled.

Despite being a type of plastic, they are still very durable and lightweight. All the earrings posts are nickel free and hypoallergenic. To attach my earring posts, I use resin, if you have any known allergies, feel free to reach out to me via email and I can use another method for you.
