Medusa was a beautiful human woman in the beginning. Most gods/goddess have temples where people can pray to them, Medusa was a worshipper at a temple of Athena- goddess of wisdom and war. Like Athena, her worshippers were all celibate, meaning they practiced abstinence. Unfortunately, because Medusa was so beautiful, men started coming to the temple to worship her instead of Athena… which of course angered the goddess. She assumed Medusa was only going to the temple to be worshipped herself. One thing I have mentioned before about the gods, they are very vengeful with humans as well as one another. Poseidon saw the anger Athena was feeling over her worshippers favoring Medusa over her, he took this one step further and went to the mortal land to defile Medusa in Athena’s temple. Medusa prayed for Athena to help her but no help would come. Until Poseidon left, she came to see that she had broken her vow of celibacy and transformed her into the creature she is depicted as today. Medusa ran far away because she was turning people who tried to help her into stone. Once she was alone, she started to worship Athena on her own. Setting up small offerings and praying to her. Athena realized that she truly was going to the temple to worship her and didn’t care that the men wanted her instead… of course a god/goddess couldn’t admit they were wrong so this promoted Athena to gift Perseus with her shield so he could go put her out of her misery. Athena then took the head to mount it on her shield, she is commonly depicted with the head of Medusa.

The Greek Mythology collection is one I’ve had in my brain for almost a year now and I am so excited to have it available now!

Some background on these acrylic material pieces, all shapes/illustrations are designed by me either on my iPad or on Adobe Illustrator. They are cut out with a laser cutter and then need to have their backings peeled off front and back before they are assembled.

Despite being a type of plastic, they are still very durable and lightweight. All the earrings posts are nickel free and hypoallergenic. To attach my earring posts, I use resin, if you have any known allergies, feel free to reach out to me via email and I can use another method for you.
